WhatsApp is once again at the forefront of making messaging an even more interactive and user-friendly experience. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Monday that users can now edit their sent messages within a 15-minute window, via a post on Facebook. This feature will effectively eliminate the need for follow-up corrections or deleting messages due to errors. The rollout of this feature has commenced globally and will be accessible to all users within the next few weeks.
“Have you ever found yourself wishing you could correct a typo or add some context to a sent message? Well, now you can,” said WhatsApp in its statement. This new feature brings a level of flexibility to communication that can help reduce misunderstandings and enhance clarity.

The process to edit your sent message is simple. Long-press the message you want to modify and select ‘edit’ from the dropdown menu. The revised message will be marked as ‘edited’. However, WhatsApp won’t provide an edit history. The edited messages, like all WhatsApp messages, will remain secured under end-to-end encryption, ensuring the privacy of the user’s data.
WhatsApp’s feature may seem new but rival applications like Telegram and Signal have already integrated this functionality. Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, has also recently extended the tweet modification capability to selected users.
WhatsApp isn’t stopping here. To further protect users’ privacy, a ‘Chat Lock’ feature was recently added. This enables users to safeguard their most confidential conversations with a password. The secured chats will be stored separately and the sender’s name and content will be hidden when a new message arrives.

Moreover, WhatsApp is also working on an innovative feature to enhance user creativity. This new feature will allow users to transform images into stickers. As reported by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.10.7.4 update on the Test Flight app already has this feature.
