Zomato Prepares to Serve Up a Smarter Future: Harnessing Generative AI for Enhanced Customer Experience

In an era where technological advancements reshape our daily routines, Artificial Intelligence (AI) sits at the forefront, promising an unprecedented transformation. From tech titans like Google and Microsoft, the development of new generative AI tools has taken center stage, resulting in AI becoming an integral part of our everyday lives. Following the footsteps of these tech pioneers, Zomato, the leading restaurant aggregator and food delivery company, is now set to explore the untapped potential of generative AI in its services. 

According to a report by Economic Times, Zomato is in the nascent stages of integrating AI technology into its customer-centric services. As per sources privy to the developments, Zomato, which also owns the quick commerce platform Blinkit, plans to enhance customer experience through a portfolio of AI-powered products. To spearhead this innovation, Zomato has hired a dedicated head of AI product development and is looking to build a team of experts specializing in machine learning, data science, and natural language processing. 

This transformative move by Zomato aims to integrate AI into various customer-facing features like search and notifications, along with backend tools like product photography and customer support. By doing so, it hopes to elevate the overall user experience across both the Zomato and Blinkit platforms. The automation of customer communication within the application, when combined with generative AI, is anticipated to manage increasing loads with increased efficiency and effectiveness.

A Zomato spokesperson confirmed the impending AI developments, stating, “Over the past year, Zomato has fine-tuned neural networks that predict food preparation and delivery time, among other things.” The spokesperson further added, “Blinkit has utilised machine learning to optimise supply chain costs and reduce delivery times. We are also experimenting with generative AI. For instance, Blinkit now offers nearly unlimited recipes, along with the required ingredients, on its app.” 

Furthermore, Zomato is reported to be joining forces with global companies such as Google, Adobe, OpenAI, and Microsoft, to advance in the field of AI. “Zomato and Blinkit have been consistently hiring engineers with machine learning skills over the past few years. We are always searching for talented engineers who can assist us in developing new models to create services that delight customers and streamline business processes,” said the Zomato spokesperson. 

In a recent blog post, Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, highlighted a significant breakthrough. A dedicated team comprising engineers and a product manager successfully created ‘Recipe Rover.’ This novel engine, powered by ChatGPT and Midjourney, provides recipe suggestions and assists users in finding the necessary ingredients. 

Indeed, Zomato’s move towards integrating AI into its platform is a testament to the company’s commitment to improving its customers’ experience, demonstrating an exciting fusion of technology and food delivery. It is a testament to the transformational potential that AI holds for businesses, marking the dawn of a smarter, more seamless food delivery experience for customers.
