Tesla Model 3: Malaysia’s Latest Electric Entrant KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 – Today, the electric vehicle (EV) market in Malaysia lit up with the unveiling of Tesla’s new Model 3 at Pavilion Damansara Heights, offering local car enthusiasts an enticing alternative to the Model Y.
Notable Attendees at the Launch The launch drew significant attention, graced by the presence of Nga Kor Ming, Local Government Development Minister, and Isabel Fan, Tesla’s Regional Director.
What the Model 3 Brings to the Table Offered in two versions – the rear-wheel drive at RM189,000 and the long-range at RM218,000 – the Model 3 boasts advanced aerodynamic exterior design for enhanced performance. Its minimalist interior is dominated by a central touchscreen console, controlling most of the car’s features, reminiscent of the Model Y. Performance-wise, the long-range version can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds with a single-charge range of 629km, while its rear-wheel counterpart offers a range of 513km and a 0 to 100km/h speed in 6.1 seconds. Both variants max out at a speed of 201km/h.

Enhanced Comfort and Features Tesla hasn’t just focused on performance. The Model 3 promises a quieter journey with its 360-degree acoustic glass. In addition, new features such as ambient lighting, a comprehensive sound system, ventilated seats, a second-row eight-inch display, a revamped centre console, and fresh wheel choices set it apart.
Availability and Delivery With public registration for the Model 3 about to open, eager buyers can expect deliveries by the close of the year.
Tesla’s Foray into Malaysia Coinciding with the Model 3 launch, Tesla’s inaugural flagship Experience Centre in Malaysia was inaugurated at Pavilion Damansara Heights. Expressing enthusiasm over Tesla’s move, Minister Nga touted Malaysia as a potential hub for Southeast Asia. He further encouraged EV makers, including Tesla, to expand their operations, hinting at Malaysia’s potential to house another major EV factory in Asia. Reiterating the government’s commitment, Nga highlighted the ongoing initiative to establish 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025.
Tesla’s Charging Commitment The Experience Centre will showcase Tesla’s expansive product range and various charging solutions. Currently, Tesla has established two supercharging stations in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Big Box, Johor. Isabel Fan articulated Tesla’s vision for cross-country EV travel, mentioning plans to set up more supercharging points in Malaysia. With Tesla’s advanced supercharging, Model 3 can be charged up to 282km in a mere 15 minutes.
