The digital landscape is always evolving, with WhatsApp being no exception. The platform, cherished by billions in the Asia Pacific and globally, is testing waters with its newest security-oriented features.
New Dawn for Digital Security: Self-Destructing Audio
Following its recent addition of passkey support, WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce self-destructing audio messages. The revelation was brought to the fore by WABetaInfo, hinting that selected users of WhatsApp’s beta version are experiencing the feature firsthand.

Much like its ‘View Once’ feature for images and videos, these audios will vanish post their initial listen, reinforcing users’ trust in the platform’s dedication to safeguarding their privacy. Since the launch of ‘View Once’ in 2021, WhatsApp fortified this feature by preventing screenshots and recordings. The self-destructing audios are expected to follow suit, keeping download or recording at bay.
A succinct report suggests, “WhatsApp amplifies its commitment to user security with voice notes that disappear post one view. Beta testers with the latest versions are currently trialing this feature.” As part of the visual hint, while recording, a “1” icon appears, indicating its self-destructive nature.
However, the release timeline for the general populace remains under wraps. Even within the beta community, only a handful have the privilege to test it. iOS aficionados keen on joining the beta version via TestFlight might find it a tad challenging to get an invite.
Branching Out: WhatsApp for iPad
WhatsApp doesn’t stop at just audio enhancements. In a move to cater to Apple enthusiasts, the company is in the throes of developing an iPad application. Mirroring its Mac counterpart, this app lets users sync their mobile WhatsApp for an integrated experience on their iPad.
