Marketing In Asia (M.I.A), recently had the pleasure of interacting with the SquareX team, to gather personal responses to learn about their revolutionary browser-based cybersecurity product. This innovative firm is set to shake up the cybersecurity industry, with the worldwide release of their product on the horizon.
Cybersecurity Threats Addressed By SquareX’s Innovative Product
SquareX has identified a gap in the market for cybersecurity solutions. Existing offerings, such as anti-virus, malware, and spyware protection tools, operate on a probabilistic model, relying on signature databases and various heuristics to determine potential threats. This often results in false positives and hinders user productivity. For instance, a user receives documents from a colleague the antivirus software’s probabilistic model classifies the document to be malicious. Now the user has no other option than either sacrificing on his security by turning off the antivirus and maybe falling prey to the virus on the file or sacrificing on his productivity by not opening a seemingly important file sent by a colleague.

However, SquareX is introducing a deterministic approach with its browser-based product. Their unique isolation technology creates remote disposable file viewers in the cloud, allowing users to view any document without fear of infection from malware or spyware. They’re giving a sneak peek into their technology through Malware.rip, a free community website set to launch on the 15th of June, 2023, that allows users to safely upload and view suspicious files.
The Bug Bounty Program and User Data Protection
With the launch of their Bug Bounty program ahead of their worldwide product release, SquareX is prioritizing user security, anonymity, privacy, and productivity. They use isolation technology to create individual sandboxes for users, protecting their data from potential misuse or unauthorized access. SquareX also ensures no user data is retained post-session, creating an environment where the user’s identity remains safe and private.
Reward Criteria for Bug Bounty Program
SquareX has delineated a specific scope for their Bug Bounty program, including their malware.rip website, domain and subdomains, along with specific criteria within the Disposable File Viewer, including:
- Container breakout to host
- Getting Internet access inside the container
- Breaking multitenancy i.e viewing other user sessions
- Attacks on Kubernetes
- Extending the lifetime of the container
The reward for successfully submitted bugs can range from USD 100 to USD 2,000, based on the severity of the bug.
To maintain fairness and transparency, each bug reported is reviewed independently by three members of the SquareX team. All decisions made by the team are final and binding.
SquareX’s Contribution to Cybersecurity Awareness
Being a Singapore-based company, SquareX is committed to supporting government initiatives in fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness. They are launching their Bug Bounty program to test their product before public launch, to help promote cybersecurity awareness and look forward to future collaborations with the Singapore government.
Long-term Vision for SquareX
