The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), an esteemed global authority for chartered accountants, proudly introduces Shenola Gonzales as the freshly appointed Head of ICAEW Malaysia.
Succeeding Loh Wei Yuen, whose impactful 15-year leadership has left an indelible mark, Gonzales is poised to steer the ICAEW Malaysia team towards new horizons. Her primary focus will be to fortify the organization’s foothold in Malaysia, amplify its membership, foster the growth of aspiring accountants, and ensure alignment with ICAEW’s overarching strategic goals.
Meet Shenola Gonzales: A Blend of Expertise and Vision
Gonzales is no stranger to the intricacies of the financial realm. A graduate in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, she embarked on her professional journey at Ernst & Young in the UK. By 2002, she had achieved her ICAEW qualification, marking the beginning of a stellar career.
Over the past twenty years, Gonzales has donned multiple hats, from managerial finance to mergers and acquisitions, across a spectrum of industries. Her return to Malaysia in 2011 saw her entrepreneurial spirit soar, leading to the inception of several thriving ventures. Notably, her tenure as the Head of Investments at a leading Alternative Investments Platform in South-East Asia and as CEO of a subsidiary of a potential Malaysian unicorn stands testament to her prowess.
Attributing her multifaceted success to the skills honed through her ICAEW qualification, Gonzales’s unique ability to demystify intricate financial concepts and forge impactful relationships has been a cornerstone of her illustrious journey.
Gonzales on ICAEW’s Vision and Future
Gonzales passionately shared, “Within ICAEW, a fundamental pillar of our decade-long strategy centers on the education and development of future chartered accountants. This pillar is reinforced by their shared professional qualifications and standards, as well as the cohesive support provided by entities such as the ICAEW members’ society. By actively contributing their expertise across various realms including business, professional, and policymaking spheres, all while steadfastly upholding rigorous standards for the benefit of the public and holding our members accountable, we collectively enhance and expand the reputation and influence of ICAEW-chartered accountants.”

Highlighting the progressive strides in the realm of diversity and sustainability, she added, “Globally, we recently welcomed our fourth female ICAEW President and the first female chairperson of ICAEW Malaysia’s Members’ Society. In addition, in terms of sustainability within the industry, 97 of Malaysia’s top 100 companies include sustainability data in annual reports.”
With an unwavering commitment to excellence, Shenola Gonzales is eager to usher in a new chapter for ICAEW in Malaysia. “I am truly excited about the opportunity to build on our recent successes and further strengthen the ICAEW community in Malaysia. With my background in various roles within the finance industry and beyond, I hope to challenge established beliefs to bring new perspectives to our students and members.”
