The Over-The-Top (OTT) sphere is abuzz with activity. This dynamic platform is a treasure trove of opportunities for actors, resulting in the rise of new talent like Jaideep Ahlawat, Pankaj Tripathi, and many others. As consumers grapple with the choice of platform from Netflix, Zee5, Amazon Prime, Disney Hotstar, SonyLiv to market disruptors like Jio and newcomers such as iTap, it’s clear that there’s a new game in town.
iTap is one such newbie that offers an intriguing mix of content and hypercasual gaming, and all at an unbeatable price of just 27 paise per day.
Zee5 recently revealed an impressive line-up of 111 titles, including the much-anticipated Manoj Bajpayee starrer “Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai,” based on the controversial godman Asaram Bapu. Zee5’s strength lies in its regional content, backed by over two decades of experience in the South and East markets and an extensive library. Manish Kalra, Chief Business Officer, Zee5 India, stated, “Being one of the only homegrown entities in India, we aim to leverage our understanding of local languages and establish ourselves as pioneers in this space.”
On the other hand, Amazon Prime, a titan in the OTT space, delivers content to 99% of the Indian postal codes. It continues to woo subscribers with hit originals like “The Family Man,” “Mirzapur,” “Made in Heaven,” among others. With content in 10 languages, they launched more than 500 titles last year alone.

But the conversation about OTT platforms is incomplete without the mention of Netflix, the original game-changer. Posting a staggering $1.31 billion profit and gaining 1.75 million subscribers in the March quarter alone, Netflix has crystal clear ambitions. Monika Shergill, Netflix India’s Vice President of Content, remarked, “Our goal is to create a sustainable streaming model while declaring profits between $5 billion – $6 billion.”
It’s a thrilling era for the OTT domain in India. The rise of diverse platforms, the explosion of talent, and the varied content cater to the country’s vast and diverse entertainment preferences, indicating that the future of entertainment is streaming.
