In a strategic move to bolster India’s gaming landscape, Nazara Technologies, a renowned gaming and sports media conglomerate, has unveiled its fresh game publishing sector—Nazara Publishing. The objective? To pave the way for exceptional games tailored for both domestic and global gamers.
Collaborating with a myriad of developers from India and abroad, Nazara’s vision is to seamlessly blend and introduce these games to the ever-expanding Indian gaming populace. Yet, its mission extends beyond the subcontinent. Nazara seeks to champion games crafted by Indian talents, propelling them onto the global stage.
Investments and Support for Developers
For the developers, it’s not just about funding. Each game under Nazara’s wing will see an investment starting from INR 1 Cr, with the ambition to roll out at least 20 games within a year and a half. But the company’s support transcends mere monetary aid.

Developers will reap the benefits of Nazara’s expertise in game crafting, localization, sophisticated data analytics, beta tests, quality checks, and ingenious monetization blueprints. With an efficient distribution mechanism, it guarantees an enriched gaming experience for users.
Revolutionizing the Gaming Ecosystem
The Nazara Publishing platform is a haven for developers. Here, they’re not just exposed to industry trailblazers for guidance but also equipped with tools to surmount challenges, accelerate their ascent, and etch an indelible mark on India’s gaming sphere.
Nazara’s CEO and Joint MD, Nitish Mittersain, shared the company’s ethos, “Our allegiance lies in nurturing both domestic and global game creators, equipping them with resources, know-how, and a robust nexus to ensure India gets unparalleled gaming experiences. We’re doubling down on backing Indian game makers, aligning with the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, and endeavoring to catapult them to worldwide acclaim.”
Government’s Play: Tweaking the Tax Rules
While companies like Nazara are revolutionizing the gaming arena, the Indian government is not far behind. To augment tax adherence, amendments to the GST law were rolled out, compelling foreign online gaming entities to register in India from October. To dispel ambiguities, states were briefed about the non-retrospective essence of the GST on such companies. The revised 28% GST rate on online gaming platforms was ratified early September.
However, these tax recalibrations have led some platforms like Quizzy, OWN, and Fantok to hit the pause button, with Gameskraft temporarily halting its Gamezy Fantasy last month.
But as Nazara Technologies spearheads its mission, the confluence of innovative companies and evolving governmental policies could well herald a golden era for the Indian gaming industry.
