Mobile Premier League (MPL), the renowned e-sports and digital gaming platform, has marked its entry into Africa by launching its mobile app in Nigeria. This move signifies MPL’s expansion to four continents, including Asia, North America, Europe, and now Africa. The company has partnered with Africa’s gaming publisher Carry1st to facilitate its launch in the continent, with a particular focus on monetizing the gaming skills of African gamers through paid competitive gaming (PCG).
Sai Srinivas, CEO and co-founder of MPL, expressed the company’s excitement, stating, “As the first Indian gaming company to enter Africa, this launch is a testament to our success in the PCG space and our commitment to expanding our global presence. We are eager to establish a strong foothold in the Nigerian gaming market and provide our users with a world-class gaming experience.”

In recent years, MPL has been actively expanding its reach worldwide. In 2022, the company partnered with GameDuell to launch its platform in Germany. It has also been operating in the United States for the past two years.
Nigeria, known for having the highest number of internet users in Africa, presents a promising market for MPL. With 70 percent of its population below the age of 30, the country boasts a substantial gaming community. MPL revealed that 23 percent of the Nigerian population (48 million individuals) are gamers, with 95 percent exhibiting a strong affinity for mobile gaming. Notably, 32 percent of gamers in Nigeria are willing to pay for games, resulting in higher revenue per install compared to India.
The gaming market in Nigeria is projected to experience steady growth between 2020 and 2024, with an estimated rate of 9-10 percent. MPL aims to leverage this growth by providing Nigerian gamers with an immersive gaming experience and opportunities to showcase their skills on a global platform.
