Epic Entertainment Surge: NBCUniversal Teams Up with Viacom18’s JioCinema in a Game-Changing Multi-Year Deal

In an exciting development for Indian viewers, NBCUniversal (NBCU) and JioCinema, the streaming giant under Viacom18, have come together in a significant multi-year agreement. This strategic alliance will make a wealth of NBCU films and TV series available for the Indian audience, significantly amplifying the appeal of JioCinema’s existing content library. The partnership stands to benefit from NBCU’s esteemed content catalogue, backed by powerhouse production subsidiaries and brands of Comcast NBCUniversal, including Universal Television, UCP, Universal International Studios, Universal Television Alternative Studio, Sky Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Bravo, among others.

Starting from the next month, NBCU’s diverse programming will be accessible on JioCinema’s newly launched “JioCinema Premium” SVOD level, under a dedicated Peacock branded hub. Subscribers will gain access to premiere series such as Young Rock, a comedy that portrays global superstar Dwayne Johnson’s life story; the gripping action thriller The Lazarus Project; and The Lovers, a complex romantic comedy-drama. They can also delve into Peacock Originals such as Bel-Air, a fresh spin on the ’90s comedy series starring Will Smith, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin featuring Adam Devine reprising his role from the successful film, and The Calling, a captivating drama from Emmy winner David E. Kelley, led by Oscar® winner Barry Levinson and scored by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro. The deal also encompasses a multitude of critically acclaimed and beloved dramas and comedies from NBCU’s vast library, such as Downton Abbey, Suits, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and The Mindy Project.

Reality TV enthusiasts can also look forward to indulging in NBCU’s reality series, delivering all the intrigue, humor, and emotive depth the genre is known for. Included in the package are the immensely popular The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules, along with Family Karma, which follows seven Indian-American friends as they balance life, love, careers, and traditional familial expectations. Also on offer is The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, a unique transformational program narrated by Amy Poehler, featuring three Swedes helping Americans confront mortality and appreciate life in its myriad forms.

JioCinema’s impressive SVOD lineup at launch will feature streaming premieres from the legendary Hollywood studio that has already crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office in 2023. This will include Oscar-nominated Puss in Boots: The Last Wish by DreamWorks Animation, and the sci-fi horror film M3GAN, produced by James Wan (known for The Conjuring, Annabelle) and Blumhouse. In addition, blockbuster franchises like Jurassic, Bourne, Shrek, The Mummy, and Pitch Perfect will be added to the service.

Future additions will include hits from the Despicable Me/Minions and Fast franchises, including the latest release Fast X, as well as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the eagerly awaited IMAX-shot thriller Oppenheimer from acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan.

The collaboration leverages JioCinema’s extensive reach and proficiency to familiarize Indian audiences with the Peacock brand and NBCU’s diverse portfolio. Furthermore, the deal strengthens JioCinema’s status as the leading OTT service in the market, now bolstered by an unmatched array of superior films and series from NBCU.
