In our last episode, we heard the story of the founder of SCIKEY, a brand of SRKay Consulting Group. We heard, how he took a decision to leave his well paid job and enter into the world of entrepreneurship after he got a business offer from SRK Exports, an established Mumbai based diamond and jewellery export business.
Alok’s vision was to create a strong talent and work tech startup that would help organizations with variety of talent solutions, that included – offshore development centres, remote and onsite talent solutions. The market was very competitive, but his experience in that field gave him confidence. He decided to build a market network for talent, similar to LinkedIn and support that with traditional services and solutions.
Initial investment had given him enough cash to lease out a good office in Pune and hire his initial team. His colleagues from the previous company; Kesavan and Shriram had decided to join Alok right from the beginning. Even though Alok wanted Santosh to join him, he remained on the fences. Alok knew his strength in running operations of the company, but it seems there was some more waiting needed.
It has been about six months since Alok started SRKay. Alok’s connection in the industry had resulted in quick businesses that gave SRKay a good start. His initial business came from his friends who had worked with him in US some of them obliged him with technology support and development work that gave his company a good start. While things looked good from outside, Alok has started to think hard. He travelled most of the time to establish business contacts and get new business, he hardly got time to do anything else. This compelled him to leave most of the day to day operations with his managers, who tried their best to align with Alok.
