Alipay+ Boosts Cross-Border Mobile Payment Solutions Ahead of UEFA EURO 2024

Singapore/Berlin, June 12, 2024 – Alipay+, operated by Ant International, is gearing up for an eventful summer as the official payment sponsor of UEFA EURO 2024™. In anticipation of increased travel, Alipay+ is expanding cross-border mobile payment acceptance and launching exclusive campaigns with enticing offers for users of partner e-wallets.

Together with Antom merchant payment services and WorldFirst, Alipay+ will feature prominently on LED display boards at EURO 2024 stadiums and across 50 TV channels in Europe. The prestigious Top Scorer trophy will be awarded at the UEFA EURO 2024 finale on July 14 in Berlin.

To welcome the influx of sports fans and tourists, Alipay+ has expanded its merchant network in Europe. Over 400,000 merchants now accept mobile payments through Alipay+ from 14 international e-wallets and banking apps. In Germany and Austria, a partnership with Bluecode enables digital payments for users of over 370 banks. Travelers can enjoy seamless payments across various categories, from department stores like Berlin’s KaDeWe to convenience stores, F&B outlets, and attractions.

Alipay+ has also partnered with Crédit Mutuel to enhance merchant acceptance in France, enabling payments at top retailers, hotels, and restaurants, including Max Mara and Kids, as well as over 500 SMEs near the Olympic stadium. The collaboration with G7, the leading EU taxi company, ensures convenient payments for tourists in Paris. Popular shopping destinations like Printemps, Galeries Lafayette, and La Vallée are now Alipay+ enabled.

In the UK, a partnership with DNA Payments brings Alipay+ acceptance to over 50,000 additional merchants, including Harrods, Liberty London, and Selfridges. In Spain, Alipay+ users can enjoy discounts at Boqueria Market Barcelona and El Corte Inglés. In Italy, an expanded partnership with Worldline Italia upgrades all Android POS terminals to Alipay+, benefiting tourists across thousands of stores, restaurants, and attractions.

Danny Chung, General Manager of Alipay+ Europe, Korea, Middle East, and Mongolia at Ant International, expressed enthusiasm: “Europe is already a popular destination for global tourists, and we expect this summer to be one of the busiest. Alipay+ will enable more merchants to benefit from this unprecedented influx of fans, athletes, and tourists via our seamless and convenient mobile payment technology and suite of digital solutions.”

To engage fans further, Alipay+ has distributed over 2,000 tickets through campaigns in various markets, including Italy, France, the Netherlands, UK, Austria, and Germany. A promotional lottery campaign in these countries awarded over 400 tickets, while Bluecode users in Germany and Austria won an additional 400 tickets.

In Asia, partner e-wallets ran campaigns featuring a ticket raffle, in-app football mini-games, vouchers, and more, reaching over 700 million engagements. Over 780 tickets were distributed, 8 million vouchers claimed, and 1 million participants played the football mini-game.

WorldFirst also awarded 172 tickets to merchants, demonstrating its support for SMEs in international trade.

Asian destinations are also gearing up for summer travel. Alipay+ partner users in Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, and the Chinese mainland can enjoy offers throughout their journeys. In Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, users can purchase discounted vouchers for duty-free shops, supermarkets, and attractions. In Japan, 20 flagship brands offer discounts at about 300,000 merchants. In South Korea, summer promotions await users at popular shopping hotspots.

Merchants worldwide are preparing for an expected surge in outbound travel by Chinese tourists, offering exclusive benefits and seamless experiences. In Germany, tourists can enjoy discounts at Rossmann, dm-drogerie markt, Outletcity Metzingen, and Galeria. Alipay also offers vouchers for airport transfers, car rentals, ride-hailing services, intercity train tickets, and instant tax refunds.

To attract international tourists to the Chinese mainland, Alipay+ has partnered with five leading e-wallets to introduce diverse promotional activities. Foreign visitors can make payments by downloading the Alipay App or using their home e-wallets to scan an Alipay+ QR code.
