The Rise of Gen Z’s Social Media Drama Obsession

With Generation Z increasingly turning to social media platforms for their daily dose of drama, Checkpoint Theatre aspires to capture their attention and introduce them to the potential drama that awaits them in the world of theater. Leveraging the popularity of Snapchat, Drama In A Snap offers a unique and intriguing way to pique the curiosity of Gen Z audiences, enticing them to explore the captivating narratives of theatrical experiences.

A User-Friendly Filter Curated by Real Writers

Developed entirely within Snapchat’s Lens Studio by BBH Singapore’s Innovation Lab, the Drama In A Snap filter is incredibly user-friendly. Users can effortlessly activate the lens by pointing their device at any object of interest and tapping the screen, instantly revealing an enchanting flash fiction snippet that uncovers the hidden drama within. The filter features over 500 meticulously curated stories, each written by talented human writers. From a coffee cup that unveils the world of caffeine-hungry zombies to a car on the street that unravels a dark tale of secrets, Drama In A Snap promises endless surprises.

The Power of Computer Vision Unleashed

Powered by the cutting-edge technology of computer vision, the Drama In A Snap filter boasts remarkable versatility and adaptability. While it currently works with almost any object, it will continue to evolve, recognizing an ever-expanding array of objects over time. By harnessing the potential of object recognition, this innovative lens pushes the boundaries of storytelling, enabling audiences to engage with the drama hidden within the everyday.

Faith Ng, Associate Artistic Director at Checkpoint Theatre, expresses her enthusiasm for this unique approach, stating, “We believe that everyone is a storyteller at heart, and that there is power in telling and owning our own Singapore stories. We loved the idea of revealing the stories that lie within mundane, everyday settings – the drama in a sandwich or a cup of tea – which reflects the way Checkpoint Theatre tells everyday stories, for everyone, so they feel seen, heard, and represented.”

AI Empowering Artists: A New Chapter in Collaboration

Sascha Kuntze, Chief Creative Officer at BBH Singapore, highlights the significance of this collaboration in the context of the ongoing discourse surrounding the role of artificial intelligence in art. He states, “In a year where the dominant conversation has been about the danger of A.I. replacing artists, this collaboration demonstrates how A.I. – in this case, neural network powered computer vision – can help give artists a new avenue to share their work with the world.”

Promoting Checkpoint Theatre’s 2023 Season Globally

Launching on June 13, 2023, the Drama In A Snap campaign will captivate audiences worldwide, serving as a remarkable promotional tool for Checkpoint Theatre’s exciting 2023 season. The season will feature extraordinary productions such as Tender Submission, a captivating play that witnesses the unraveling of a decades-long marriage (August 17-23), and Session Zero, an immersive experience where an estranged couple attempts to reconnect through a gripping game of Dungeons & Dragons (October 19-29).
