Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, marking their second in-depth discussion about the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, aimed to explore ways to leverage India’s abundant young talent in the field of AI.

Nvidia in India: A Growing Footprint

Nvidia, an American tech giant founded in 1993, entered the Indian market in 2004. Since then, the company has expanded its operations with four engineering centers, employing 3,800 people and fostering a community of over 320,000 Indian developers. Jensen Huang lauded the partnership and acknowledged India’s impressive progress, notably the talented youth who are invaluable in overcoming tech barriers and scientific challenges.

Nvidia’s CUDA: A Popular Platform in India

Nvidia’s CUDA platform enjoys popularity in India, boasting around 60,000 experienced developers. The platform is pivotal for high-performance computing and data science, and its strong foothold marks a significant advantage for future collaborations between India and Nvidia.

Sustainability: A Key Element

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, also aims to spearhead India-specific AI solutions and has pledged 2,000 MW of AI computing capacity while stressing sustainability. This commitment amplifies the scope for AI-based innovations in the country, underlining its importance for global competitiveness.

Another noteworthy mention is PM Modi’s focus on ‘Atal Tinkering Labs.’ Aimed at encouraging innovation among 7.5 million students, these labs are designed to be a bedrock for skill development, research, and collaboration.
