It goes without saying that the pandemic has wreaked havoc on the global economy. However, there was a surge of fresh ideas and young startups around the world who quickly reacted to the pandemic and were able to break into the mainstream market in a short period of time. Despite the fact that physical movement was prohibited, these three emerging startups in Malaysia continued to develop and grind. In conjunction with the upcoming pitching session, which will be hosted by pitchIN and MIA, we are excited to have the opportunity to speak with GK AQUA, HeyJom and EPiC about their insights on the pitching session.
Let’s get together with the participants of pitchIN x MIA Collaboration Kick-Off Pitching Session. Hello there, founders! It’s wonderful to have you here with us. Tell us a brief overview of yourself and your company for a start.
GK AQUA: Hello, my name is Giva, and I am the CEO and founder of GK AQUA. As a biotechnologist, I am constantly envisioning Malaysia’s bioeconomy transformation based on our biodiversity and favourable climate. Indeed, the Malaysian Giant Prawn was an ideal candidate for us to start with in terms of transitioning from a cottage sector to a globally recognised sustainable seafood.
HeyJom: Good day, I am Patricia, the CEO and founder of HeyJom. I am an avid runner and fitness enthusiast. In my ideal world, everyone would take up a sport or fitness activity, and embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. Score Sports Management, an award-winning sports and fitness event management company, was formed by my partners and me. We specialise in organising large-scale events such as marathons, bicycle races, and obstacle races. We also conceived Score Marathon, Malaysia’s 3rd largest marathon. We established HeyJom, a registration tool for mass participation events, in response to a large number of Score events and events we organise for clients. After seeing the evolution of the fitness lifestyle, we are transforming Heyjom from a registration platform to a health and fitness super app that connects fitness lovers, trainers, event organisers, and advertisers.
EPiC: Hi, I am Wick Kee, the co-founder of EPiC. We are an online restaurant that leverages data and technology to solve a new normal problem in the online food delivery industry – deadweight loss, namely inefficient pricing in prepared, delivered meals. With 8 years of cumulative growth in online meal delivery competencies, we are a hyper-growth, already profitable internet restaurant company. Through our Epic Kitchen, which includes EPiC OS and a chef-less operating model, we hope to make good meal delivery affordable and accessible to the masses. Since 2017, we have been the first and only internet restaurant company to receive JAKIM halal certification. With a highly effective omnichannel strategy, we now operate over 90 internet restaurants. We offer approximately 800,000 meals per year, with a 54.4% repeat purchase rate. Our Epic Kitchen records investment payback time of as short as 3 months, which is 6.7x faster than the industry average.
What aspect of this event are you most looking forward to?
GK AQUA: The audience Q&A sessions are what I am most looking forward to.
HeyJom: This Friday, I am excited to meet like-minded, fitness-conscious folks and tell my story and mission to champion an active lifestyle. Let us make a difference while also earning money.
EPiC: We are excited to share our 8 years of experience in the online meal delivery industry with the audience. We would also like to extend an invitation to investors who believe in the future of food delivery to join us in our rapid expansion.
Can you offer us and the audiences a sneak peek at what you’ll be pitching during the event?
GK AQUA: I believe that the audience can anticipate how simple it is to scale up a business model and how technology can be used to mitigate risk in the supply chain.
HeyJom: I’m ecstatic to present our plans and discuss the benefits of investing in the HeyJom ecosystem. You can join HeyJom for as little as RM1900 and help us transform people’s lives for the better.
EPiC: A business model that is highly scalable, profitable, and sustainable to capitalise on the fast-growing online food delivery market in any economic condition.
The pitching session will take place on Friday, March 25, 2022, through Zoom. Audiences interested in attending are invited to register here and can discover additional information on Eventbrite.
