According to a study by Milieu Insight, seven in ten HR professionals experience burnout at least once a month, with some experiencing it as frequently as once a week. In addition, 41% of these professionals rated their mental health as “fair,” “poor,” “very poor,” or “extremely poor.” These statistics highlight the alarming prevalence of burnout and deteriorating mental health in the HR industry.
Factors Contributing to Burnout and Fatigue
Various factors have contributed to burnout and fatigue in the HR industry. Financial and geopolitical uncertainties, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the potential for a global recession are some of the primary contributors. However, the glamorisation of productivity and the “rise and grind” mentality have also played a significant role. HR professionals and younger employees, in particular, have felt the impact of these factors, leading to burnout and deteriorating mental health.
Mental Health Resources and Their Impact
Although 51% of HR professionals claim that their employer provides them with mental health resources, less than half (44%) are satisfied with these resources. Furthermore, only 32% of HR respondents believe that their company places high importance on employee mental health. This lack of support has contributed to the challenges faced by HR professionals.

Businesses must provide mental health care to HR staff in order to address the issues affecting the HR sector. A worker in HR that has more power is more likely to reach their full potential at work and contribute more to their team.
