Search engine optimization (SEO) is a constantly evolving marketing strategy. Google constantly updates its algorithm, so your SEO strategy should stay fresh to stay competitive. As we can see from the past, Google’s algorithm changes and trends happen every year.

Wondering what SEO in 2022 will look like? Check out this article, here are the trends you’ll want to keep an eye on for your strategy.

Video SEO

More than half of all online consumers rely on videos to help them make purchases decisions. Therefore, you’ll want to include videos in your SEO strategy if you haven’t done so already since it could lead to better rankings & an increased conversion rate for your website.

Google is introducing new features which will make searching for information faster through videos. 

  • Clip markup: You can use Clip markup on your videos to highlight key points. For example, if you create a video containing tips, you could use markup for each tip. 
  • Seek markup: Seek video markup allows Google to display the most significant moments in your video automatically. 

 

Your videos can appear in search results for more relevant and competitive terms with these two new features.

Focusing on user search intent

The key to writing good content is understanding what the user is looking for. This can be accomplished by analyzing the search intent of the user.

Search intent, defined in Google’s Search Console, is an indicator that helps you understand what users expect to find when they perform a search on Google.

The search intent of your keyword enables you to craft content that answers the needs of your target audience and drives them down your conversion funnel.

Improving page speed

Page speed is the time it takes for a web page to load. It is important for SEO as it affects how fast users can find their desired content. Page speed optimization (PSO) reduces the load time of a web page by decreasing page weight, network latency, or server response time, reducing image size, and deferring loading scripts or stylesheets to improve the load time of your site. 

The good news is that there are many tools you can use to identify and fix page speed issues on your website. Google page insights is an excellent tool for this, as it not only gives you a quick overview and provides a list of recommendations to fix each issue found.

Mobile SEO

Delivering a mobile-friendly website should be your top priority. It’s important if you want your SEO to succeed in 2022. 

The rise in popularity of mobile devices and the increasing use of social media have given people a convenient alternative to traditional desktop browsing. This has created a situation where having a non-mobile-friendly website could potentially result in loss of business or at least some customers. Mobile-friendly websites are a necessity for any business that wants to be successful. It’s necessary to have a site design that is easy to use and navigate on any device size – from smartphones to desktops. The site must load quickly and be compatible with all browsers, including smartphones.

Conversational queries

Google is always trying to improve the user’s search experience by improving the relevance of their results. 

Google launched LaMDA to understand natural language better. With the introduction of LaMDA, Google aims to understand dialogue better to deliver results more efficiently. 

As conversational queries would be more popular in 2022, you would do well to focus much of your SEO strategy on writing content that is optimized for voice search. When optimizing for conversational keywords, make sure your answers are concise to provide helpful information quickly.

Updating existing content

Not every company goes back over their old content. They rarely take the time to go through their past blog posts or old website pages to ensure they’re updated. 

If your company is struggling with declining organic traffic, a content refresh could be the correct route for you. You can frequently update and add depth, information, sources, updated info, etc., to your existing content.

Providing a positive user experience

The future of SEO in 2022 will be focusing on the user experience. Significant changes in the way people shop on the internet mean that your online store needs to offer every customer a seamless and delightful experience. 

The suggestions below will help you deliver a positive user experience:

  • Make sure that your website is secure with an (SSL) to deliver a safe online shopping experience to customers. 
  • Optimized website loading speed so that users can access information fast. 
  • Creating navigation for users to navigate the website and find products they’re interested in quickly.
