Kerjaya dalam industri latihan ini ada pelbagai. Dalam perkongsian kali ini, saya fokuskan khusus mengenai trainer dan pilihan business model sebagai trainer.

Kerjaya dalam industri latihan ini ada pelbagai. Ada trainer, ada training coordinator, ada training consultant, ada sales and marketing dan macam-macam lagi. Dalam perkongsian kali ini, saya fokuskan khusus mengenai trainer dan pilihan business model sebagai trainer. Kerjaya seorang trainer, tanpa mengira topik pengkhususan umumnya terbahagi kepada tiga (3) model utama.

  1. Trainer bermajikan (Employed Trainer)
  2. Trainer bebas (Freelance Trainer)
  3. Trainer bersyarikat sendiri (Business Owner Trainer) 

Sebelum timbul pertikaian tentang nama yang saya berikan di atas, izinkan saya huraikan perbezaan asasnya. “Trainer bermajikan” adalah seorang yang diambil bekerja dalam satu organisasi sebagai pekerja dan diberikan tugas melatih orang lain (boleh jadi pekerja syarikat itu juga, atau orang luar atas nama syarikat itu). 

Mereka ini biasanya memegang jawatan trainer disamping mempunyai tugas dan tanggungjawab yang lain. Untungnya menjadi trainer bermajikan ialah, disamping bergaji dan mempunyai employee benefits, perbelanjaan latihan ditanggung oleh syarikat. Ada juga yang mempunyai kakitangan sokongan yang akan membantu dalam penyediaan menjalankan latihan.

“Freelance Trainer” adalah seorang trainer yang tidak mempunyai sebarang ikatan employment dengan mana-mana syarikat penyedia khidmat latihan (Training Provider). 

Mereka bebas memilih untuk terima mana-mana job yang ditawarkan oleh syarikat penyedia khidmat latihan yang mempunyai business model associate trainer (beroperasi dengan tidak mengambil pekerja untuk jawatan trainer). Tidak mempunyai gaji tetap dan employee benefits, oleh itu kelangsungan hidup hanyalah bergantung kepada jumlah job yang mampu dilakukan. 

Bergantung kepada strategi trainer itu sendiri, mereka boleh menawarkan khidmat latihan mereka kepada seberapa banyak syarikat penyedia khidmat latihan (TP) yang mereka mahu dan menentukan sendiri trainer fee (upah) yang bakal mereka terima (tertakluk kepada persetujuan TP). 

Untungnya menjadi freelance trainer ialah kebebasan menentukan jumlah hari bekerja – mahu banyak, padatkan jadual; mahu berehat, tolak job yang dapat. Cuma, ada TP yang hanya akan membiayai sebahagian daripada perbelanjaan latihan – nota dan alat tulis TP sediakan, alat-alat untuk games dan sebagainya atas tanggungan trainer sendiri. 

Trainer bersyarikat sendiri pula, hampir sama dengan freelance trainer tadi cuma sekarang, trainer juga harus menanggung kos operasi syarikat. Sebagai pemilik syarikat, skill set (kelompok kemahiran) tambahan yang trainer tadi perlu ada ialah keupayaan mengurus operasi bisnes. 

Untungnya ialah, kesemua training fee (yuran latihan) adalah hak syarikat sendiri berbanding trainer fee semasa menjadi freelance tadi. Bergantung kepada diri sendiri untuk menguruskan kewangan agar profit margin berbaloi dan overheads tertampung. 

Cuma, trainer juga perlu berusaha memastikan program latihan dijual dan ini mungkin makan masa trainer itu sendiri. Ringkasnya: tidak ada sales = tidak ada training = tidak ada income = tidak boleh tampung overheads; Jika hendak buat lebih, perlu ada pekerja. Tambah pekerja = overheads naik. Banyak dapat pengalaman praktikal jika menguruskan bisnes dan pekerja sendiri.

Jadi, dengan memahami tiga (3) model trainer di atas, bolehlah nilai kekuatan dan kelemahan diri, serta tinjau peluang dan risiko yang ada (contohnya dengan membuat SWOT analysis). Mudah-mudahan ketemu jawapan yang mana yang serasi dengan diri anda dan tidak perlulah banding-bandingkan untung nasib trainer lain.
