Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched its Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia’s journey toward becoming a regional leader in digital transformation. This new AWS Region provides Malaysian businesses, government agencies, startups, and nonprofits with the tools they need to innovate, securely store data, and enhance operational efficiency—all while enjoying lower latency and greater resilience.
This strategic investment underlines AWS’s long-term commitment to the region. The tech giant plans to inject over $6.2 billion (approximately MYR 29.2 billion) into Malaysia’s economy through 2038. This significant investment is expected to add approximately $12.1 billion (MYR 57.3 billion) to Malaysia’s GDP and support more than 3,500 full-time equivalent jobs annually across various sectors.
Tengku Zafrul, Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI), stated, “The launch of an AWS infrastructure Region in Malaysia provides access to new and emerging technology for Malaysian entities and businesses of all sizes, boosting our country’s capabilities for digital innovation.” He further emphasized that this development is a crucial step toward achieving the vision set forth by Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which aims to position the country as a hub for manufacturing and services in Asia.
Empowering Businesses with Advanced Cloud Capabilities
AWS’s presence in Malaysia is already empowering a wide array of organizations, from large enterprises to emerging startups, to scale their operations and innovate at an unprecedented pace. Malaysian companies like CelcomDigi, PETRONAS, and Bursa Malaysia are leveraging AWS’s vast portfolio of services to drive efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS, remarked, “Malaysia’s rapidly growing digital economy requires access to secure, resilient, and sustainable cloud infrastructure. With today’s launch, AWS is proud to support Malaysia’s digital transformation and help accelerate its role as a regional hub for AI.”

Through initiatives like AWS Academy and the newly launched Program AKAR, AWS is equipping thousands of students and professionals with essential cloud skills, positioning them for success in the digital economy.
AWS’s dedication to sustainability is also evident, with the company striving to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The new AWS Region in Malaysia will benefit from AWS’s global sustainability efforts, further enhancing the country’s capabilities in green technology and digital innovation.
With the launch of its new Region in Malaysia, AWS is not just expanding its global footprint but also reinforcing its role as a key enabler of digital transformation in Asia Pacific. As Malaysia continues to embrace digitalization, AWS’s investment and infrastructure will be instrumental in shaping the country’s future as a digital and economic powerhouse in the region.
