Amazon Launches Bazaar: New Budget-Friendly Vertical Targets Unbranded Market in India

Recently, the e-commerce giant Amazon has entered the unbranded market and currently launched a new products category, namely ‘Bazaar’. This category is available in the Amazon India android application with many unbranded and low-cost products such as clothes, watches, shoes, jewelry, and luggage, under INR 600.

The launch of Amazon Bazaar appears to be targeting price-sensitive customers from India’s Tier-II, Tier-III, and other states. Additionally, Amazon has stated that Bazaar will feature products from vendors who are mainly located inside the country’s manufacturing hubs.

“We continue to invest and innovate on behalf of our customers and third-party sellers and are excited to introduce the Amazon Bazaar storefront on Amazon.in where customers can discover and shop ultra-affordable fashion and home products listed by sellers, especially from manufacturing hubs across India,” an Amazon spokesperson stated.

This initiative was revealed two months after it was reported that Amazon was preparing to introduce Bazaar. According to sources cited by the Economic Times, Bazaar will initially be available to a limited group of users and will be prominently displayed within the app.

Unlike Amazon’s typical two-day delivery service, items from Amazon Bazaar are expected to take between four and five days to deliver.

This development marks another significant step for Amazon in diversifying its business and reaching new customers. It follows closely after Amazon entered the logistics sector in India with a new division, Amazon Shipping, and its domestic arm, Amazon Seller Services, received a capital injection of INR 830 Cr from its American headquarters.

With Bazaar, Amazon is now competing directly with entities like Meesho, supported by SoftBank, and Flipkart’s Shopsy, both known for their affordable ecommerce solutions and strong market presence in the budget-friendly sector.
