An Exclusive Interview with Sunil Kaul and Chef Ranveer Brar on Photography, Storytelling, and Creativity
SHARE

Leica Camera, a name synonymous with precision and luxury in the world of photography, is set to make waves with its latest camera launch. In an exclusive interview, we sit down with Sunil Kaul, Managing Director of Leica Camera Asia Pacific, and Chef Ranveer Brar, the newly appointed brand ambassador for Leica India. Together, they offer insights into the camera’s cutting-edge features, Leica’s continued commitment to innovation, and the exciting intersection between culinary artistry and photography. This collaboration marks a new chapter for Leica in India, celebrating creativity in all its forms.

Can you tell us what inspired the development of this new Leica camera, and how it stands out from previous models in terms of innovation and technology?

Sunil Kaul :The inspiration behind the Leica Q3 43 stems from our commitment to delivering a versatile and high-performance camera that appeals to a broad audience. This model features a 43mm Apochromatic Summicron lens, which is celebrated for its optical excellence and closely resembles human vision. What sets the Q3 43 apart is its weather-sealed design, allowing photographers to use it in diverse conditions, from the monsoon rains of Mumbai to vibrant festivals across India. We aimed to create a camera that is not only technologically advanced but also economically accessible, inviting more individuals to experience the Leica legacy.

What drew you to partner with Leica India, and how do you see your journey in the culinary world intersecting with Leica’s vision of capturing moments of excellence?

Chef Ranveer Brar: My partnership with Leica India is driven by a shared passion for storytelling and artistry. As a chef, I strive to convey narratives through my culinary creations, and Leica’s commitment to capturing authentic moments resonates deeply with me. The precision and quality of Leica cameras allow me to document my journey in the culinary world, showcasing not just the food, but the emotions and stories behind each dish.

Leica has a rich heritage in the luxury optics industry. How does the brand maintain its legacy while continuing to innovate in today’s digital age?

Sunil Kaul: Our journey began in 1849 as a microscope company, where the lens was the pivotal element. This heritage is reflected in our new camera, which features lenses crafted by us in Germany. The photography this camera enables produces stunning images, reminiscent of our storied past. As a testament to German engineering, this camera is built to last and can be cherished for generations. Together, these elements embody our commitment to tradition, legacy, and the art of passing down craftsmanship through time.

As the new face of Leica India, how do you plan to integrate storytelling through photography with your culinary experiences, and what message do you hope to convey to the audience?

Chef Ranveer Brar: Each photograph taken with a Leica camera captures not just the food, but the essence of the moments spent in the kitchen. I want to convey that food transcends mere sustenance; it is an art form and a means of sharing culture and emotion. This collaboration naturally stems from our shared passion for photography, making our partnership already fruitful. Together, we inspire others to appreciate the artistry in both cooking and photography without needing to force any particular direction.

Could you share your insights on Leica’s growth in the APAC region and the strategies that have been effective in establishing Leica as a leader in the market?

Sunil Kaul: Leica’s growth in the APAC region has been largely organic, driven by our focus on authentic storytelling and community engagement. We understand the unique challenges posed by diverse markets, particularly in India, where retail regulations can be stringent. By fostering relationships with local photographers and enthusiasts, we’ve built a loyal customer base that appreciates the artistry of our products. Our strategy revolves around creating immersive experiences, allowing consumers to connect deeply with the Leica brand while celebrating the art of photography.

What can we expect from Leica’s future presence in India, and how will this partnership with Chef Ranveer Brar influence the brand’s journey in this market?

Sunil Kaul: We envision Leica becoming more integrated into the Indian photographic community through experiential initiatives and partnerships that celebrate creativity. Chef Ranveer Brar’s association with the Leica family will play a significant role in this journey, as it symbolizes our commitment to merging culinary arts with photography. By showcasing the beauty of food and the stories behind it, we hope to inspire a new generation of photographers and food enthusiasts, ultimately enhancing our brand presence and community engagement in India.

How does Leica plan to engage with the growing community of photography enthusiasts and professionals in India, especially with the introduction of this new camera?

Sunil Kaul: With the launch of the Leica Q3 43, we plan to engage with the photography community through various initiatives, including workshops, exhibitions, and collaborative projects. Our strategy focuses on creating platforms where enthusiasts can explore the capabilities of our cameras, connect with fellow photographers, and participate in storytelling through their work. We believe that by fostering these interactions, we can cultivate a vibrant community that appreciates the artistry of photography and enhances the Leica experience.

How do you believe photography can enhance storytelling in the culinary arts, and how do you envision using the new Leica camera to capture the essence of your culinary journey?

Chef Ranveer Brar: Photography is an invaluable tool in the culinary arts, as it allows chefs to convey the essence of their dishes and the emotions behind them. With the new LeicaQ3 43, I envision capturing not just the final presentation of food, but also the stories behind each recipe—the ingredients, the preparation, and the experiences shared with loved ones. By using Leica’s exceptional quality, I aim to highlight the beauty and artistry in food, inviting viewers to engage with my culinary journey on a deeper level.

In your view, what role does technology play in shaping the future of creative storytelling, and how does the collaboration between Leica and Chef Ranveer Brar reflect this evolution?

Sunil Kaul: Technology is essential in shaping the future of creative storytelling, providing artists with innovative tools to express their visions. The collaboration between Leica and Chef Ranveer Brar exemplifies this evolution by blending high-quality photography with culinary artistry. Through advanced technology, we capture authentic moments that resonate with audiences and inspire them to explore their own creative potential. This partnership not only highlights the transformative power of visual storytelling but also reinforces our commitment to craftsmanship and innovation in both the realms of photography and culinary arts.

As Leica embarks on this exciting journey with Chef Ranveer Brar, it becomes evident that the brand’s vision goes beyond capturing images—it’s about narrating stories that resonate deeply with audiences. With the new camera offering unmatched quality and the partnership with Chef Brar opening new doors for creative storytelling, Leica continues to solidify its place as a leader in both the photography and luxury markets. As we anticipate Leica’s growth in India and beyond, the future looks promising for those passionate about the art of visual storytelling.
