TikTok Launches #ThinkTwice Campaign to Promote Safe and Positive Online Engagement in Malaysia

TikTok, a global leader in mobile video content, has introduced its latest initiative, the #ThinkTwice campaign, designed to empower Malaysians to create safer, more positive digital spaces. In partnership with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF), All Women’s Action Society (AWAM), and the Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA), TikTok aims to educate users on the importance of thoughtful online interactions.

The campaign encourages Malaysians to pause and reflect on the impact of their online activities—whether posting, commenting, or sharing. A combination of informative content, webinars, and a resource hub will help users better understand TikTok’s Community Guidelines, safety features, and support available through various NGOs. Top Malaysian creators will also contribute inspiring content to reinforce these positive messages.

Fostering Responsibility and Positivity in Digital Spaces

Anuar Fariz Fadzil, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy for Malaysia, shared, “At TikTok, we encourage our users to have the freedom and opportunity to express themselves authentically and creatively in a safe and positive environment. Through #ThinkTwice, in partnership with CMCF, AWAM, and MIASA, we want to empower Malaysians to take responsibility for their online actions and encourage them to contribute to a healthy and positive online community.”

This initiative is designed not just to promote awareness, but to inspire proactive measures in how individuals interact within digital communities. The collaboration with organizations like CMCF, AWAM, and MIASA amplifies the campaign’s commitment to mental health awareness, digital literacy, and eliminating online gender-based violence.

Inspiring Conversations Around Digital Responsibility

Mediha Mahmood, CEO of CMCF, emphasized the importance of self-regulation in online behavior:

“Through the #ThinkTwice campaign with TikTok, we encourage the practice of self-regulation by being mindful of the content we share and respectful of the comments we post. Our interactions in the digital world reflect who we are as individuals and as a society. We owe it to ourselves to be a positive example that others can look up to and follow.”

The campaign also features key Malaysian TikTok creators like @yimotapir, an award-winning animator, and @wfsufina, an educator, both advocating for TikTok’s safety features and community guidelines.

Creating Positive Change with Live Sessions and Mental Health Focus

In conjunction with World Mental Health Day in October, TikTok will host a series of LIVE sessions featuring mental health professionals and experts. These discussions will provide viewers with actionable advice on managing mental health challenges and creating a supportive online environment. Puan Anita Abu Bakar, President of MIASA, noted the importance of using platforms like TikTok to raise mental health awareness and combat stigma:

“Platforms like TikTok have significant potential to enhance mental health awareness, literacy, and support across diverse communities, while also combating the stigma often associated with mental health issues. The #ThinkTwice campaign stands as a crucial initiative to educate, connect, and spark meaningful conversations about mental health.”

A Platform for Inclusivity and Digital Literacy

AWAM’s Amanda Shweeta Louis, Senior Advocacy Officer, highlighted TikTok’s unique role in empowering marginalized communities:

“Platforms like TikTok offer a unique space where individuals—especially women and marginalised communities—have a voice and can be heard. As platforms like TikTok become inseparable from our daily lives, it’s crucial we take charge of our online spaces. Through #ThinkTwice, AWAM hopes to raise awareness and foster more informed discussions about digital literacy and internet safety, creating online communities that work towards eliminating online gender-based violence.”

As Malaysians join the cause with #ThinkTwice, TikTok invites everyone to engage in creating safer, kinder online communities by sharing positive, thoughtful content. To participate in the campaign, visit TikTok’s resource hub and join the movement.
