SGTech’s Proposals For A Stronger & Sustainable Digital Future In Budget 2023

SGTech, the Singaporean Technology Association, has made news again with its forward-thinking suggestions for Budget 2023. The association’s mission is to advance Singapore’s digital technology sector, and it has proposed three substantial new initiatives to that end. These suggestions are geared on strengthening Singapore’s digital technology industry through the cultivation of human talent, which should lead to more resilience and creativity in this field.

SGTech proposes a skills-based approach to the development of technical competence as its initial proposal. Association leaders think that by establishing distinct educational and career paths, they would be better able to adapt to the ever-evolving nature of the technology sector and reduce inefficient skill duplication. To promote the technology industry as a whole and steer local employees into higher-value tech professions, SGTech is pushing for a group effort among several stakeholders, including educational institutions and enterprises.

SGTech suggests investing in a stronger Digital Trust staff and ecosystem as their second best practise. For the sake of bettering the existing condition of digital trust, the organisation proposes testing out a specialised Digital Trust workforce. This is a crucial move since Singapore enjoys competitive advantage on its credibility. To further cement Singapore’s position as a global digital hub and increase the industry’s economic impact, SGTech launched Digital Trust in October 2022.

Finally, SGTech suggests that firms should embrace sustainable practises. The group’s mission is to advance regulations that reward and facilitate environmentally responsible business practises by small and medium-sized firms (SMEs). Depending on the amount of e-waste they submit or the results of their own corporate sustainability study, for instance, SMEs may be entitled for financial reimbursements. SGTech is hopeful that new regulations would encourage businesses to act ethically and sustainably while taking part in the expanding digital economy.

The chair of SGTech, Wong Wai Meng, said, “Our recommendations will help companies to seize the opportunities in the fast-growing digital economy by fostering a more trusted, safe, dynamic, and efficient digital ecosystem, supporting and nurturing a vibrant pool of tech talent, and leveraging tech to operate responsibly and sustainably.”

He further added, “We hope the government can consider these recommendations from the tech sector, especially as it attempts to plan for the future of our economy via the Forward Singapore exercise. SGTech remains committed to advocating for the local tech industry and strengthening private-public partnerships.”

The group promotes the local technology sector and fostering productive public-private partnerships, and it is counting on the government to take its suggestions into account as it develops for the future of the Singaporean economy as part of the Forward Singapore initiative.
