Coles and SecondBite Raise Over $1.4 Million to Combat Hunger Across Australia

In a powerful display of community spirit and generosity, the Coles SecondBite Winter Appeal has successfully raised over $1.4 million to support Australians facing food insecurity. This significant achievement will enable SecondBite, a leading national food rescue charity, to distribute the equivalent of 7.4 million meals to around 1,000 community partners across the country.

A Community United for a Cause

The funds were raised through the collective efforts of Coles customers, team members, and suppliers. Shoppers contributed by purchasing $2 donation cards at Coles supermarkets and making donations at affiliated liquor stores, including Vintage Cellars, Liquorland, and First Choice Liquor Market. Additionally, popular brands such as Chobani, Mount Franklin (Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Australia), Nando’s, and the Natural Chip Co. supported the cause by donating a portion of sales from selected products to SecondBite.

Supporting Aussies in Need

Daniel Moorfield, CEO of SecondBite, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “Even in challenging times, Coles shoppers have shown remarkable generosity, reflecting the strong spirit of support within our community. This appeal will help us rescue and distribute essential food to those in need, and we’re deeply appreciative of Coles and its customers for their continued dedication. Together, we’re working towards a future where everyone has access to regular nutritious meals.”

Corporate and Community Commitment

Sally Fielke, Coles Group General Manager of Corporate and Indigenous Affairs, also shared her appreciation, noting the dedication of Coles’ team members who went the extra mile to raise additional funds through various in-store activities. “Coles is incredibly grateful for the generous support of our customers and suppliers who supported the SecondBite Winter Appeal this year, as well as our team members who went over and above to raise extra funds through initiatives like cake stalls, dress-up days, and sausage sizzles,” she said.

Since 2011, Coles has been a steadfast partner of SecondBite, contributing to the provision of over 250 million meals through the donation of unsold, edible food from its supermarkets and distribution centers. This ongoing collaboration underscores Coles’ commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable communities across Australia.

A Positive Impact on Local Communities

The funds raised during this year’s Winter Appeal will be instrumental in assisting thousands of Australians in need, particularly during the colder months when the demand for food relief often peaks. The partnership between Coles and SecondBite exemplifies the power of collective action in making a tangible difference in people’s lives, ensuring that no one goes hungry.
