Chennai, India – September 2024: At just 15 years old, Krisha from Chennai is redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur. With a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability and community welfare, Krisha has transformed her passion for eco-friendly Ganesh idols into a thriving business that now spans across Mumbai and Dubai. Her journey, which began at the age of 11, is an inspiring story of how youthful ambition, paired with a purpose, can lead to remarkable change.

The Birth of a Green Initiative

Four years ago, a conversation with her father about the challenges of running a business sparked Krisha’s entrepreneurial spirit. Motivated by the desire to contribute positively to the environment, she decided to create her first eco-friendly Ganesh idol for Ganesh Chaturthi. Crafted entirely from sustainable and biodegradable materials, Krisha’s 10-inch idol provided an environmentally conscious alternative to conventional idols, which are often made from non-biodegradable substances.

Her idols, which decompose naturally without harming the environment, have gained significant traction among those seeking eco-conscious choices during the festival.

Expanding Across Borders: Mumbai to Dubai

Over the years, Krisha’s small venture has expanded both in size and impact. Today, her business offers three different sizes—8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch eco-friendly Ganesh idols—and has sold products not only in India but also internationally, with markets in Mumbai and Dubai showing increasing demand.

Krisha’s initiative has contributed to the reduction of over 250 non-eco-friendly idols, helping minimize environmental damage during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. In addition, her tree-planting initiative, linked to the sales of her idols, has resulted in the planting of over 250 trees—a remarkable achievement for a business of her size.

Empowering Communities and Preserving Craftsmanship

What sets Krisha’s venture apart is her dedication to both environmental and social responsibility. By partnering with local artisans, she has created employment opportunities and preserved traditional craftsmanship. These artisans, many of whom have faced financial hardship, now have a sustainable source of income thanks to Krisha’s venture.

“The collaboration with local artisans is at the heart of what I do. It’s important to me that this business uplifts those who need it most while also keeping our traditional art forms alive,” says Krisha.

A Heartfelt Cause: Donating to the Mohan Foundation

Beyond business, Krisha is driven by a passion for giving back. After completing an internship at the Mohan Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting organ donation, she decided to donate her profits to the cause. The experience opened her eyes to the life-changing impact organ donation can have, and she now actively supports the foundation’s mission.

“My internship at the Mohan Foundation showed me how crucial organ donation is in saving lives. I’m proud to support their work through my business,” she explains.

A Bright Future for Eco-Conscious Entrepreneurship

Krisha’s journey is a testament to the power of young entrepreneurs in driving meaningful change. Her eco-friendly Ganesh idols are not just products; they symbolize her commitment to sustainability, community empowerment, and philanthropy. By making environmentally conscious choices accessible and supporting vital causes like organ donation, Krisha is proving that businesses can be both profitable and impactful.
