Canon today announced three professional video production solutions designed to meet evolving demands in cinema, broadcast, and digital content creation: the hybrid EOS C50 the smallest Cinema EOS camera, the RF85mm f/1.4L VCM, the first 85mm lens in its compact, lightweight f/1.4L VCM photo-video hybrid lens series; and the CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1, Canon’s widest CINE-SERVO lens.
The fresh product lineup empowers creative professionals with technology that brings their creative vision to life across multiple production scenarios, be it shooting social media videos, documentaries, blockbuster films, or live broadcast events.
“Today’s creative professionals need advanced equipment that can keep pace with the depths of their imagination. Canon’s latest product innovations empower both enthusiasts and professionals to push the boundaries of visual storytelling and take their productions to greater heights. With these new tools, creators have more freedom to craft, refine, and reimagine their content anytime, anywhere,” said Mr. Andrew Koh, Senior Vice President and Head of Singapore Operations Group, Canon Singapore.
EOS C50: Compact and Versatile
The hybrid RF-mount EOS C50 is the smallest Cinema EOS camera with a new 7K full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV 7 processor. It offers internal 7K 60P RAW recording, high frame rates up to 4K 120P / 2K 180P and produces 32MP photos.
Multiple Framings with Open Gate Recording in One Footage
EOS C50 is the first Cinema EOS camera to feature Open Gate recording with its new Full Frame 3:2 sensor mode. By utilising the entire sensor to provide maximum resolution, users can now edit and reframe both horizontal and vertical shots from the same footage. When paired with anamorphic lenses, a taller image with a wide immersive cinematic look is created. Creators will also benefit from the Simultaneous Recording function, which captures full-angle and cropped images concurrently.
Fluent in Stills and Video
In both stills and video modes, users can use Canon’s deep learning-based Dual Pixel CMOS AF II found in the EOS C50 for high-speed, high-accuracy subject detection and tracking. Options for fine-tuning autofocus speed and behaviour to suit the subject and scene are also available.
EOS C50’s native RF mount makes it compatible with Canon’s diverse range of RF-mount lenses and cinema lenses, including the RF85mm f/1.4L VCM and CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 (RF mount version). EF/PL lenses can also be attached via the Canon PL-RF Mount Adapter or EF-EOS R mount adapters.
Adaptable and Lightweight
With its modular design and multiple accessory mounting points, the EOS C50 seamlessly integrates with modern rigging setups. The EOS C50 can be mounted either horizontally or vertically, with the display and menu settings adjusting to match the orientation. A detachable handle unit features two full-size 3-pin XLR audio terminals and controls, offering convenient camcorder-style control for fast-paced shoots.
Robust Connectivity
The EOS C50 has UVC/UAC support for high-resolution livestreaming at up to 60P/50P via a single USB cable, and XC Protocol for remote camera operation. This is achieved via compatible smartphone applications or hardware accessories such as Canon’s RC-IP1000 Remote Controller.
With Canon’s professional Content Transfer Professional (CTP) mobile application, footages can be transmitted to recipients in real time over Wi-Fi or USB. Proxy files can be sent directly from the camera to the Frame.io platform via Frame.io’s Camera to Cloud, creating a seamless transfer process.
RF85mm f/1.4L VCM: Up Close and Intimate Narratives
The fifth in Canon’s professional f/1.4 VCM photo-video hybrid prime lens series, the RF85mm f/1.4L VCM adds medium telephoto reach capability to a lineup that consists of mostly wide-angle lenses. Its reach, compression, and shallow depth of field allow users to capture dramatic close-ups and intimate frames comfortably.
RF85mm f/1.4L VCM is built for both stills and video, pairing exceptional optics with professional video features like a clickless aperture ring, optical focus-breathing control, and Canon’s new VCM. It is lightweight but sturdy at 636 g and 99.3 mm long, making it ideal for handheld or gimbal work. Its consistent sizing and a shared 67 mm filter thread with other lenses in the series make lens swaps quick with minimal rebalancing.
RF85mm f/1.4L VCM delivers reliable performance in tough conditions with its dust- and drip-resistance, fluorine coating, ghosting and flaring suppression through ASC (Air Sphere Coating). Its advanced UD and GMo aspherical lenses ensure images remain sharp and clean from edge to edge.
CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1: Light and Wide
Weighing at 3kg with an ultra-wide 11mm focal length (100-degree angle of view), the CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 is Canon’s widest and lightest CINE-SERVO zoom lens. With its removable servo unit, it is easily configurable and offers unprecedented flexibility in different situations. These include studio setups, cinema, and dynamic live events. The lens can also be paired with gimbals, cranes, and wire cams.
With Canon’s next-generation e-Xs V Digital Drive Unit, the CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 is precise with an ergonomic servo control, a responsive iris and USB-C connectivity. The CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 is available in both RF and PL mount, offering versatility for users. In PL mount, the lens supports Cooke /i Technology™ and ZEISS eXtended Data™ for real-time metadata output, while the RF mount variant has Dual Pixel CMOS AF support for fast and smooth autofocus, with advanced lens correction data.
