AI can give any business a leg up on the competition

The continent of Asia stands at the forefront of technology use and development. At $275 billion in R&D spending in 2018 alone, China has demonstrated a commitment to technology unmatched by the rest of the world, and the global market stands to benefit as a result.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, China and its surrounding neighbours brought out their artificial intelligence tools to assist in managing the virus alongside economic factors. The applications of these tools have been highly useful, with implications spanning beyond the realm of healthcare.

From chatbots to smart warning systems, the innovations used in Asia throughout the pandemic demonstrate the power of AI. These systems have a wide variety of uses—with proper integration. Here, we’ll break down AI applications during the pandemic, their uses, and how you can make use of these Asian AI trends for greater success.

AI during the Pandemic

With its bustling population and consumer culture, Asia has had to develop technological solutions that keep citizens safe while able to continue with their daily business—even during the strains of the pandemic. Many countries in Asia were among the most prominent innovators of tech during this time, with everything from warning apps on mobile devices to AI-powered supply chain management developed to help stop the spread while getting citizens the supplies they needed.

Asia’s innovations have broad implications, useful not only for pandemic management. Learning from these examples can help businesses prepare the kinds of tech solutions needed in the modern world.

When the pandemic arrived, Asian nations stepped up with technological tools. Here are just two prominent examples.

Singapore’s TraceTogether

When the pandemic struck, Singapore was quick to develop a mobile application called TraceTogether. This application reaches out with Bluetooth signals to other tokens carried by users. These interactions are then recorded for 25 days, giving the Ministry of Health in Singapore valuable contract tracing data should someone become infected with COVID.

This is a pairing of wearable devices, location information, and data analytics that requires the efforts of smart systems like AI to function and produce real-time results. While it isn’t a perfect solution to managing the pandemic, the actionable use of data and wearables may give enterprising businesses ideas for greater customer outreach and location-based marketing.

China’s Alipay Codes

China has developed a QR code system with the help of tech company Ant Financial to track contacts and exposure to COVID-19 and produce warning codes for users. Using the Alipay wallet app on their mobile devices, Chinese users receive a coloured code based on available data regarding COVID exposures. Green means a user is clear, while red and yellow indicate possible health risks.

AI is a necessary component of this technology, as smart processes are needed to analyze the data of millions of users to produce exposure results with any level of accuracy. The applications of data analysis and AI decision-making on this scale are enormous. With vast insights into data, mobile systems can better make all kinds of recommendations, from healthcare to consumer products.

These are but two of the many instances in which Asian countries developed answers to pressing needs through technology. With the proper application, modern businesses can emulate AI innovation trends to produce better methods of e-commerce and service for the digital world, as we all socially-distanced.

Applying AI Trends

The modern world revolves around data. AI allows for the use and application of consumer data for innumerable processes and services, many of which have been demonstrated in Asia’s attempts to control and combat the coronavirus pandemic. These trends can be applied to software-as-a-service, customer support, and much more to bring about a more consumer-friendly, digitally-enabled marketplace.

Follow Asia’s example by applying marketable AI technologies to your business practices. These applications include:

  • Personalized recommendations. Across SaaS and e-commerce systems, the use of personalized content is changing the ways we do business. With Asia’s increasingly individualized consumer culture, these AI-powered recommendations are more important to utilize than ever.
  • Live chatbots. Modern consumers now work all kinds of schedules and need to rely on useful, 24/7 customer service platforms. Integrating live chatbots can enhance your customer support and sales funnel strategies to produce highly beneficial results.
  • Robotics for health solutions. Like the innovations Asia has made in managing the coronavirus, AI can be utilized in a host of healthcare solutions. For example, Japan is using robotics to better manage eldercare for its Silver Tsunami. Looking to AI for answers to public needs is a great way to apply trending tech innovations while keeping the human element at the forefront of technology.
  • Security and privacy solutions. Throughout 2020 and beyond, web development trends will make use of AI to monitor and protect consumer data—especially where health information is concerned. The rise in cybercrime in the modern era needs smart, adaptable systems to match it. AI can monitor networks with unmatched proficiency, keeping fraud at a minimum.

Asia has applied these technologies and more in efforts both to keep the populace safe and engage in lucrative digital business throughout the pandemic. AI is the future of global trade. Taking note of these examples and how they can serve the health and business goals can give any business a leg up on the competition, especially in Asian markets where technology is at its most competitive.
