Mercedes-Benz Integrates Google Maps and YouTube to Offer Enhanced Driving Experience

Mercedes-Benz and Google recently collaborated to provide customers with access to YouTube, Google Maps, and navigation services in their vehicles. The German automaker is trying to figure out a way to satisfy customers without ceding control of the entire vehicle’s operating system. The collaboration will enable Google Maps, Cloud, and YouTube functionality in upcoming Mercedes-Benz vehicles that are powered by the automaker’s MB.OS operating system. To enable assisted driving features like automatic speed adjustments. Before intersections, roundabouts, or curves, Mercedes-Benz will use data from Google Maps. More than just these services will be provided as part of the partnership. In addition to helping Mercedes-Benz design a unique navigation interface,

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “We’ll also use our AI and data capabilities to help Mercedes-Benz advance autonomous driving and improve the customer experience.” The MB.OS operating system, which Mercedes-Benz has been developing for a while, will debut in the following generation of Mercedes vehicles. Which is anticipated to begin production towards the end of 2024. Mercedes claimed to have independently developed the Linux-based operating system. Built it in such a way as to support third-party applications and services, such as those offered by Google.

For instance, Mercedes stated that it intends to develop its own branded navigation system using new geospatial data for in-car use and navigational capabilities from Google Maps Platform. Customers won’t have to wait years to enjoy the partnership’s initial benefits, though. Mercedes announced on Wednesday that as of today, the automaker will grant customers access to some initial new features, including Google Place Details. Over-the-air software updates will be used to deliver the new feature. The new Mercedes E Class will also feature the MB.OS precursor later this year. Customers will be able to use apps like Tiktok and Zoom. Through that system from the infotainment system in their vehicle. The stakes are high for the outcome. Mercedes hopes that users of its MB.OS will stop choosing to mirror their smartphones. Into the in-car entertainment system using middleware services like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

At the event on Wednesday, MB.OS CTO Markus Schäfer stated. “I mean, that’s the ultimate goal of MB.OS, it will create a customer experience so there’s no need to plug in your phone.” Mercedes-Benz and Google’s collaboration offers numerous advantages to both parties. While Google’s navigation, maps, and YouTube services are available to customers, Mercedes still maintains control over its intellectual property and market. The collaboration will advance autonomous driving, speed up sustainability initiatives, and improve the customer experience. Mercedes hopes that its new operating system, MB.OS, will make using middleware products. Like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto unnecessary for customers.

      Finally they let go their expensive & stupid map service that can never work in countries like India. Good to have adopted Google & Youtube. They should also work to integrate Navik GPS of India.
