Malaysia Airports Celebrates 67th Merdeka and Malaysia Day with ‘Warisan Kulinari Kita’ at KLIA

In honour of Malaysia’s 67th Independence Day and Malaysia Day, Malaysia Airports is proud to introduce its latest campaign, ‘Warisan Kulinari Kita,’ at KL International Airport (KLIA). This exciting initiative, running from 20 August to 20 September 2024, pays tribute to Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage and celebrates the diverse flavours that bring Malaysians together.

From traditional dishes to modern twists on classic recipes, this event offers travellers and visitors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to immerse themselves in Malaysia’s vibrant gastronomic traditions. The theme, in line with the 2024 Merdeka and Malaysia Day focus, “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka,” is designed to inspire pride and unity in the hearts of Malaysians and share the country’s unique culinary culture with the world.

A Cultural Journey Through Food at KLIA

At the heart of the ‘Warisan Kulinari Kita’ campaign is the stunning Rumah Kampung Limas, a life-sized traditional kampung house, taking centre stage in KLIA Terminal 1’s Departure Hall. This nostalgic installation is divided into sections, each showcasing the culinary treasures of different Malaysian communities.

Visitors will also be able to explore the Herbs Garden (Taman Herba), which features an array of local herbs and ingredients like pandan, butterfly pea flower, and hibiscus. These ingredients, cherished in both traditional and modern Malaysian cuisines, will be highlighted in live cooking demonstrations throughout the campaign, allowing visitors to learn more about their uses and significance in Malaysian dishes.

For the first time ever, KLIA will host an indoor paddy field installation, symbolising rice as Malaysia’s staple food. Rice-based dishes, such as Nasi Lemak, Nasi Biryani, Chicken Rice, and Nasi Kombos, will showcase the versatility of this essential ingredient in the kitchens of Malaysians from various ethnic backgrounds.

Connecting Malaysians Through Food

Highlighting the emotional and cultural significance of this initiative, Hani Ezra Hussin, Senior General Manager, Commercial Services for Malaysia Airports, shared,

“Malaysians’ deep passion for food unites us, and this Independence Day and Malaysia Day, we proudly showcase our culinary treasures on the world stage while empowering local F&B businesses. As the gateway to the nation, we’ve reimagined our retail landscape to offer an immersive cultural experience that captivates travellers and locals alike. Through strategic marketing, we amplify the voices of local retailers, making them integral to creating joyful, unforgettable memories aligned with our commercial reset strategy.”

The campaign will also include exciting activities such as food tasting sessions, interactive cooking workshops, and recipe sharing. Whether through hands-on workshops or delicious food tastings, visitors are invited to fully immerse themselves in Malaysia’s culinary traditions, bridging cultures through flavours.

Showcasing Malaysia’s Culinary Heritage to the World

Malaysia’s culinary diversity is more than just an array of flavours; it is a reflection of the country’s deep-rooted cultural heritage and its power to unite people. From everyday local meals to festive occasions, food plays a vital role in connecting communities across the country. This campaign, set in KLIA—the gateway to the nation—puts Malaysia’s rich food heritage on the global stage.
